Quick answers

How are the 12 College Football Playoff teams picked?
The champions of the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC get in, and so does the highest-ranked team from the American, Conference USA, the MAC, the Mountain West, the Pac-12 and the Sun Belt. How is the playoff bracket seeded?
Straight by the committee's final ranking: the top-ranked team is the No. 1 seed. An automatic qualifier ranked outside the top 12 is seeded at the bottom. There is no reseeding during the playoff and no change to avoid rematches.
Who gets a first-round bye?
If the season ended today, Miami (FL), Georgia, Utah and Indiana. The four highest-ranked teams get byes, whether or not they won their conference.
When and where are the playoff games played?
First-round games are Dec. 18–19 on the higher seed's campus. The quarterfinals are the Fiesta Bowl (Dec. 30) and the Peach, Rose and Cotton Bowls (Jan. 1). The semifinals are the Orange Bowl (Jan. 14) and the Sugar Bowl (Jan. 15). The national championship is Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
What channel are the College Football Playoff games on?
The first round on ESPN, ABC/ESPN and TNT/truTV; the quarterfinals on TNT, ABC/ESPN and ESPN; the semifinals on TNT (Orange Bowl) and ABC/ESPN (Sugar Bowl); the national championship on ABC/ESPN.
When does the committee release its rankings?
