How to watch college football without cable

Only one team ends up supremely happy; that's the sport. But as long as you know where and when to watch the games, that's a modicum of joy, no?

Six networks, four conference channels, three "plus" feeds that are not channels at all, and a Big Ten game on Peacock the one Saturday you forgot to renew. Here is how to end up least unhappy, in the order the questions actually arrive.

Which conference is on which channel

SEC
ABC and the ESPN family (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network), with the overflow on SEC Network+ in the ESPN app.
Big Ten
FOX, CBS and NBC for the big windows; FS1 and Big Ten Network for the rest; a handful of games a year are Peacock only.
Big 12
FOX and FS1, ESPN and ESPN2, and a package on TNT (which also streams on HBO Max).
ACC
ESPN, ESPN2, ACC Network, the overflow on ACC Network Extra in the ESPN app, and a package on The CW — which is free.
Pac-12, Mountain West, American, Sun Belt, MAC, CUSA
Mostly ESPN's channels and ESPN+, with CBS Sports Network, The CW and each league's own streaming service filling in. Weeknights belong to them.

Every game page on this site says which of these it is, and the streaming route next to the network is the one that works without cable.

The plus signs: SEC Network+, ACC Network Extra, ESPN+

SEC Network+ is not a channel. It is the SEC's overflow feed, and it lives inside the ESPN app. Two ways in: log into the app with a TV provider that carries SEC Network (YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, DirecTV Stream and Sling Orange with Sports Extra all do), or subscribe to ESPN Unlimited, which includes it outright. It cannot be bought on its own, which is the part everyone discovers at 11:58.

ACC Network Extra (your guide may say ACCNX) is the same idea, ACC edition. Same two doors.

ESPN+ vs ESPN Unlimited. The ESPN app is the door; what is behind it depends on what you pay for. ESPN+ is the old add-on: the ESPN+-exclusive games, mostly Group of Five and the odd MAC weeknight, and nothing on the linear channels. ESPN Unlimited ($31.99 a month) is the whole house: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN on ABC, plus ESPN+, SEC Network+ and ACC Network Extra. If the game you want is not on ESPN+, the answer is Unlimited or a live-TV service.

The services

ServicePriceWhat it gets you for football
YouTube TV$82.99/moEverything on the cable side: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, the ESPN family, SEC and ACC Networks, BTN, FS1, FS2, CBS Sports Network, The CW, TNT, USA. Logs you into the ESPN app for the plus feeds.
Hulu + Live TV$89.99/moSame channel picture as YouTube TV, and it bundles ESPN+ and Disney+.
Fubo$88.99/mo (Pro)The cable side minus TNT. Strong on the locals and the conference networks.
DirecTV Stream$89.99/mo (Entertainment), $94.99 (Choice, adds SEC Network)The full cable lineup; the closest thing to the old box. Promo months are cheaper, then it isn’t.
Sling Orange / Blue$45.99/mo each, $60.99 for both; Sports Extra +$11–15Orange is the ESPN side (add Sports Extra for SEC and ACC Networks); Blue is FOX, FS1, BTN, NBC and TNT in most markets. People buy Blue for FOX and then wonder where ESPN went. Sling Essentials ($19.99) is ESPN and ESPN2 and nothing else.
ESPN Unlimited$31.99/moEvery ESPN channel plus ESPN+, SEC Network+ and ACC Network Extra, with no other channels attached. Bundle with Fox One for $39.99.
Fox One$19.99/moFOX, FS1, FS2 and Big Ten Network: the Big Ten and Big 12 FOX windows in one place.
Peacock Premium$12.99/moNBC’s games, every Notre Dame home game included, plus the Big Ten games and the one Notre Dame road game a year that are Peacock-only.
Paramount+ Premium$13.99/moYour local CBS station live, so the CBS game. Some CBS Sports Network games, not all.
HBO Maxfrom $10.99/moThe TNT games simulcast here. If you already pay for it, that package is covered.
The CW appfreeThe CW's games, no login. The best value in the sport and the one nobody believes until they try it.
An antennaone-time, $20–40ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and The CW, free, forever. Which is most of the biggest games most weeks.

The cheapest way to get everything

Depends what "everything" means. The à-la-carte stack — ESPN Unlimited + Fox One bundled (~$39.99) + Peacock ($12.99) + Paramount+ ($13.99) — is about $67 a month and covers essentially every conference, minus the CW games and the NBC and CBS locals, which an antenna handles for free. One live-TV service runs $65 to $90 and adds the locals, CBS Sports Network and TNT, but not the ESPN+ and Peacock exclusives. Most people land on one live-TV service plus Peacock, at about $78, and complain about it in a way that suggests they are fine.

Why the kickoff time says TBA

Networks pick the windows about twelve days out — the Monday before the Saturday before — and hold a few big games on a six-day option, announced the Sunday or Monday of game week. Until then TBA means TBA. This site updates the moment they announce; so does everyone else who copies the same press release.

Why your area gets a different game on ABC

Regional coverage. ABC and sometimes ESPN2 split the country: one region gets Game A on ABC and Game B on ESPN2, the next region gets the reverse. Listings show the national designation; 506 Sports publishes the maps of what your zip actually gets. On a live-TV service the "other" feed usually shows up as an alternate channel.

Quick answers

How do I watch a game on SEC Network+?
SEC Network+ is a streaming feed inside the ESPN app, not a TV channel. Sign in to the ESPN app with a TV provider that includes SEC Network, or subscribe to ESPN Unlimited, which includes SEC Network+.
Is The CW free to watch college football?
Yes. The CW is a broadcast network available free with an antenna, and its games stream free in The CW app without a login.
Which streaming service has SEC Network and ACC Network?
YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, DirecTV Stream and Sling Orange with the Sports Extra add-on carry both. ESPN Unlimited includes both as well, without other channels.
What is the cheapest way to watch every college football conference without cable?
About $67 a month as of September 2026: the ESPN Unlimited and Fox One bundle (about $39.99) plus Peacock Premium ($12.99) and Paramount+ Premium ($13.99), with an antenna for ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and The CW. Prices change; check each service.
Why is a Big Ten game only on Peacock?
NBC's Big Ten contract gives Peacock a set of exclusive games each season. Those games do not air on a TV channel and require a Peacock Premium subscription.
